The Friends of the African Penguin Programme offers individuals, families and businesses the opportunity to become part of the work that we do. If you ask what you will be getting in return for you contribution, I am afraid that we will not be able to offer any Voyager Miles or free Gym Membership. We will however promise to serve as a marine bird rehabilitation centre and to provide treatment and temporary care to injured, diseased, displaced or oiled indigenous marine birds with special focus on the endangered African Penguin. Our aim is the return of these animals to the wild to help maintain population figures.
In order to achieve this we provide:
- Emergency Response
- Medical treatment
- Housing
- Nutrition
- Captive Management
- Conditioning
Through continued education we will endeavour to mitigate the human impact on marine birds.
We will contribute towards a workable Oil Spill Contingency plan for the Eastern Cape Coastline and continue networking with all relevant authorities and other bodies in the field of marine bird conservation and rehabilitation.
